Margret Mead Essay

In some cases Mead’s argument is true people don’t always celebrate famous people that are smart some other people celebrate someone that is special for them. But nowadays people do celebrate the people that are successful in life, when the people celebrating the people that are being successful in life the y should celebrate the people that are around them and special to them. I think people do admire people that succeed in life and not the people that are close to them. But in some cases some people do care and celebrate the people that are around them.
Many people now a days admire famous people. People follow and think that a person the is famous is their hero just because they are on T.V., they sing, dance, or act. In my opinion, people shouldn’t pay as much attention to a famous person. I think they can like the famous person and think they are good at what they do but they shouldn’t praise the person because the famous person is not a god they have done something wrong because no one is perfect. This shows that people admire and celebrate people they don’t really know. In my perspective people should admire themselves or the people that are around them and that are important to them.
In many schools teachers or staff tend to celebrate kids that are smart and not celebrate the kids that try their best. In schools there are kids that are smart and succeed in life but there are also kids that try their best but does not accomplish many things. Adults admire kids that get good grades and awards, which makes the other kids feel like they will not accomplish anything. In some cases the teachers tend to bring the other students down by telling them that that they will not accomplish anything.

                                                          Civil Disobedience

Civil Disobedience has been in time for a long time. The phrase civil disobedience was made by Henry David Thoreau. He made this word mean what it means today because he disobeyed the law that he considered unjust. Their were more people that used civil disobedience. For example, some men that used civil disobedience were Mohandas, K. Gandhi, and Martin Luther King Jr. They viewed civil disobedience as an important expression of citizenship. On July 1846, Thoreau was arrested because he refused to pay tax. Mohandas K. Gandhi was the leader of India’s fight for independence from British rule. Civil disobedience is a good thing because it helps people say what they really think about something. Say what they really think about something (from Resistance to Civil Government 234).
Thoreau uses civil disobedience when he knows or thinks that the government is doing something wrong and it would not only affect the government put it will also affect the citizens and state. For example, Thoreau went to jail because he knew what the government was doing was wrong and he stood up for what he believed was right not like the other people. This proves that civil disobedience is a good thing because it helps people say what they think, give their opinion, if they think it is a good thing or a bad thing. The reason why Thoreau used civil disobedience was because he did not want to pay taxes. He did not want to pay taxes because it was going to go to the war of Mexico because he believed that the war was an excuse to expand America’s slave holding territory. In my opinion, I think that Thoreau did the right thing because if he had not stood up and paid extra he would have lost a lot of money and the U.S, would still have slaves. This shows that civil disobedience can help not only one person but many people. If Thoreau had not stood up for what he believed in many things would be different. For example, he would have never been known or their would have been slave (from resistance to civil Government).
Mohandas K. Gandhi uses civil disobedience when he lead India’s fight for independence from British rule. Mr. Gandhi was a young lawyer which he worked for the ‘rights of Indians living under the racist and repressive government of South Africa. This shows that even in his young years Gandhi knew what was right and wrong he was not just going to let it happen but was going to stand up and do something about it. When Gandhi would help people he would get in to a lot of trouble that he would get sent to jail. He urged his followers to hold the principles of non-violent resistance even in the face of violence tactics’ of those in power. This means you should not fight when you are standing for what is right because if you use violence you are doing something wrong and you will never achieve something good.

             Story of an hour
The story starts with a man and woman talking about who should tell Ms.Mallard that her husband had died. After they told Ms.Mallard that her husband had died Ms.Mallard cried in front of her relatives but she did not make a huge scene. Then she went to her room and started to feel happy which I think were her real emotions. In the room Ms.Mallard kept on telling herself she was free. After a while alone in the bedroom she goes outside with her sister and goes to the living room where she saw her husband and hot a heart attack and died. The husband had said that he was not on the train. In the "story of an hour" by Kate Chopin their are many mixed emotions. The main character -Ms.Mallard- shows that their are many mixed emotions about something you have to be sad about.
Ms.Mallard has a heart problem which shows that one little bad news could affect her problem and make her problem more dangerous which can cause her to die. "knowing that Ms.Mallard has afflicted with a heart trouble, great care was taken to break to her as gently as possible the news of her husbands death" (p.594). Ms.Mallard's sister knew would could have happened to her if she told something bad. "It was her sister Josephine who told her, in broken sentences: relied hints that revealed in half concealing"(pg.594). This shows that Ms.Mallard cN take anything differently as others and might be taught weird to some other people.
Ms. Mallard doesn't take the news so harshly as everyone but she did not show it in front of people. Ms. Mallard at first took It as supposed to, "she wept at once with sudden, wild abandonment, in her sisters arms" (pg.504). After she cries she went to to her room alone then just relaxed, " there stood, facing the open window, a comfortable, roomy armchair. Into this she sank..." This proves that Ms. Mallard did not take the news so harshly because is she would have she would had had a pain in the heart. And Ms. Mallard just acted sad in front of people but then acted how she felt when she was in her own.
While being alone Ms.Mallard expresses how she really feels. Ms. Mallard feels relaxed and relieved and thinks everything is relaxing. "the delicious breath of rain was in the air" also "the notes of a distant song which someone was singing reached her faintly, and countless sparrows were twiterring in the eaves". This shows that Ms. Mallard was relaxed after the horrible news she had heard about her husband's death. "she sat with her head thrown back upon the cushion of the chair, quite motionless, except when a sob came up in to her throat and  shock her, as a child who has cried itself to sleep continues to sob in it's dreams"(pg.595). This shows that Ms. Mallard had felt really sad about the news she heard about her husband's death but now she is over it. This part confuses me because it shows that Ms. Mallard is happy and sad at the same time.
Ms. Mallard felt free after she let all her sadness out. Ms. Mallard said under her breath      "free, free, free!". This shows that Ms. Mallard felt trapped in her marriage and she was happy now that she could have her life back and it wouldn't be controlled by anyone she would control her own life.
After Ms. Mallard let's all her true feeling out in the bedroom she goes outside to the living room where she finds her husband alive and causes her to die. In the book it shows that Ms. Mallard died of happiness because she sees her husband. Mr. Mallard's explanation about what really had happened was that he was not on the train that had crashed.
In my opinion I don't think Ms. Mallard died of happiness of seeing her husband but if safeness, I think she died of sadness because in the entire story it shows that she was happy that her husband was dead. Also I think that Ms. Mallard cried in front of her family to not show she was greedy and that she did not love her husband because at that time women had to get married to have somewhere to live and eat.

                                                       What is an american

In my opinion, being an American is not based on being an born in america but also living in America. In America the government does not realize that people that live in America are now part of the state. America is made up of many cultures, religions, and the way they look. To be american it means that a person is free. America gives a person the freedom of speech that helps us americans to say what we think and not pay any consequences. Being American is good because people can be whoever they want to be and wont be judged on their differences. In America people have the right to get a good education and not like other states where kids can't go to school because they dont have money. In america it is wrong if a kid does not go to school the government  will take the parents to court and fine them. So, in america every kid has an education if they want to or not. Some people that were not born in America do not have the privilege as people that were born in America because they do not have the right to get the good jobs that pay good money. And they have to work on the jobs that do not pay good money. Also if immigrants do something wrong they would be deported back to their state.

In America people have the right to vote. This gives people the right to choose who they want as their leader. Many people come to america to better their live and make their dreams come true. In america people have more rights than other people in other states. In some states women do not have rights and are treated like they are not worth anything. But, in America women are treated half as equal as men. Women are treated equally in some cases. For example, the man is payed more the women does not get payed the entire dollar.

An american takes prtide on being american. They are not ashamed of where they are. Being an American is not all good their are many bad things. For example their are not many good jobs. Their are jobs but some jobs do not pay alot of money. And most of the people of america did not finish school or were not born in america. So, they can get the good jobs. Something good about america is that it helps homless people and single moms. They are both given money to help them survive. Its the persons choice the choose what they use the money for.
